On 9th September 2009 Maajid Nawaz addressed a roundtable at the prestigious foreign policy think tank, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) in New York. The event was attended by industrialists, researchers and policy specialists from the US Government.
Speaking candidly about his personal experience within the Islamist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir, Maajid stressed the importance of challenging the bankrupt ideology of Islamism through intellectual debate. He summarized Quilliam’s key activities and discussed effective counter messages to the Islamist narrative.
The talk was followed by a rigorous Q&A which gave the audience a chance to discuss the key issues surrounding Islamist extremism with Maajid.
