On 18 September 2014, Quilliam’s Senior Researcher, Dr Erin Marie Saltman, spoke at the United Nations in Geneva at a side event during the 27th Session of the Human Rights Council. Hosted by the International Institute for Peace, Justice and Human Rights, the panel discussed the topic of Radical Groups and the Internet. Dr Saltman spoke about the role of the Internet in processes of radicalisation and how terrorist organisations like ISIS use online tools to recruit, propagandise and antagonise. Her speech also discussed how to counter radicalisation trends through developing counter narratives. Other panellists included Jean-Paul Rouiller, Director of the Centre for Training and Analsysis of Terrorism (GCTAT) and Karolina Jaros from the Terrorism Research and Analysis Consortium (TRAC).
