Dr Usama Hasan features on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Analysis’, exploring the question: ‘What is Wahhabism?’

In the programme, Presenter Edward Stourton explores the history of Wahhabism and its founder Muhammad ibn abd al-Wahhab, looking at the original theological principles that underpin the Wahhabi branch of Islam, how global geopolitics influenced the spread of the sect, and the relationship of Wahhabism to sectarianism and extremism in the modern world.

Quilliam’s Dr Hasan gives a personal account of the way in which Wahhabism and Salafism influenced his own religious education, and the extent to which some contemporary interpretations of Wahhabism might be considered to have strayed from the original principles of its founder.
