On 15th April 2010 James Brandon, Quilliam’s Head of Research and Communications, gave a presentation on the terrorism threat arising from the ‘UK-Yemen Nexus’ at an all-day conference on Yemen which was held by the Jamestown Foundation in Washington, DC.

James’s talk examined the historic links between Islamist terrorism in Yemen and the US, particularly discussing the recent Christmas plot to bomb a Transatlantic airliner, and also the trend of Western converts to Islam becoming radicalized while studying in Yemen.

The talk was well-attended by over one hundred journalists, policy-makers and analysts and was followed by a lively question and answer session that touched not only on Yemen, but also on the British Somali community and the general nature of the terrorism threat in the UK.
