On 15th January 2010, Quilliam co-director Maajid Nawaz addressed an audience at Leeds University. The audience comprised students, lecturers and members of the local community.
Maajid’s talk was a critical analysis of the Government’s Prevent agenda, charting it from its inception to the present day. He highlighted a number of significant paradigm shifts that have taken place, in particular the Government’s realisation that they should not rely solely on so-called ‘representative’ bodies. He also focused on the need for Government and local authorities to work with, and empower voices who are serious in their attempts to counter extremism.
The talk was followed by a very lively and informative Question and Answer session which covered a number of themes. Feedback from the event was very positive.
