On Thursday, 16th September Maajid Nawaz and Ghaffar Hussein spoke to members of the Somali community in Columbus, Ohio. The evening was organised by the US Attorney’s Offices for the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Columbus Police Department.
Farah Ali, a local Somali leader and Executive Director of Community Care and Youth Development, attended as a Moderator and Somali Interpreter. Ghaffar Hussain introduced himself, the Quilliam Foundation and its work, and Maajid Nawaz. Maajid then spoke about his experiences being arrested and in prison in Egypt. He spoke in detail of the torture he witnessed in prison, and the Islamists he was detained with.
