On 16th September 2009 Quilliam Director Maajid Nawaz represented Quilliam at an Iftar reception hosted by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the State Department in Washington DC. The guests at the reception were comprised of diplomats and prominent members of Muslim communities in the U.S.
Secretary Clinton acknowledged the valuable contributions of Muslims to American society in her address to the guests before the meal. She said, “The nearly seven million Muslims in our country have enriched our culture, have made us stronger, because of contributions that many of you and others across America have given to us.”
During the event Maajid had the opportunity to interact with many of the guests, including Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke, Pakistani Ambassador to the U.S. Hussain Haqqani and President of the Board of the Council on Foreign Relations Leslie H. Gelb. Maajid discussed Quilliam’s recent work and shared with them Quilliam’s latest publication Pakistan: Identity, Ideology and Beyond.
