On Thursday 9th February, Quilliam’s co-founder and chairman, Maajid Nawaz, took part in the University Philosophical Society of Trinity College Dublin debate, arguing against the motion ‘Islam poses a threat to the West’. He was joined on the opposition side by Senator Ronan Mullen, independent Senator and delegate to the Council of Europe. On the proposition side was Tom Carew, chair of the Ireland-Israel Friendship League and Dr Mark Dooley, author and philosopher.
Maajid Nawaz and the opposition won the debate by an overwhelmingly large margin, which, he said, ‘helps normal Muslims break al-Qaida’s narrative of perpetual war’
