On 3rd December 2009, Quilliam Director Maajid Nawaz spoke at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation (ICSR) at King’s University on the subject of prison radicalization.

 

In particualr, Maajid discussed Quilliam’s recent report Unlocking Al-Qaeda: Islamist extremism in British prisons and also the historical importance of prison radicalization in creating modern jihadist movements.

 

Maajid warned that while the UK Prison Service was taking some measures to tackle radicalization and extremist recruitment, the Government must put greater emphasis on preventing prison radicalization and on de-radicalizing existing extremist prisoners.
