On 21st November 2009, Quilliam hosted a one day training seminar in Lahore for the Senior Directors of Pakistan based NGOs from the Punjab and North Western Frontier Province regions. The seminar was attended by over 40 senior staff from various NGOs.
The event commenced with an initial introductory session during which NGO attendees outlined their work and expressed their views about how best to empower citizens against extremist ideologies and to foster a culture of democracy and religious freedom within Pakistan.
Quilliam Director Maajid Nawaz provided an overview of Quilliam’s work across the country and led a discussion to draw up an action plan for collaboration on future directions and areas of work. The discussion helped to highlight a number of areas of commonality between different organisations and was a positive first step in building a network of civil society actors to further enhance counter-extremism initiatives within Pakistan.
