Head of Islamic Studies Joins Panel at VotesForSchools
LONDON – Quilliam International’s Dr Usama Hasan joined a panel of experts speaking to school children at an extremism awareness event organised by the national debating and voting platform, VotesForSchools.
Dr Usama Hasan, whose outspoken criticism of Islamist extremism has resulted in him receiving death threats for advocating evolution within the religion. “Stifling debate is dangerous. We know these ignorant or dangerous views exist, but if you ignore them they don’t go away. They fester. People feel a sense of frustration that they don’t have the freedom to express their views, which can lead to even more extreme views.”
We at Quilliam look forward to engaging with more students and schools in the future and talk about extremism in all its forms. Quilliam also offers training on counter-radicalisation through our STEER programme.click here
