Maajid Nawaz Wins Legal Battle Against Thomson Reuters World Check

Thomson Reuters World Check has admitted that Maajid Nawaz should never have been listed under their ‘terrorism’ designation, and will pay significant defamation damages to compensate for the harm that has been caused to Nawaz’s personal and professional reputation. Nawaz was represented by Mark Lewis of Seddons law firm.

Thomson Reuters have said:

“Mr. Nawaz’s World-Check profile had included him in the “Terrorism” category and we accept that this categorisation was made in error. We corrected this error on 27th April 2016 and removed Mr. Nawaz from that category. We have apologized to Mr. Nawaz for the error and apologize to our subscribers for any misunderstanding.”

Head of Islamic Studies Speaks at Durham University

DURHAM – Dr. Usama Hasan addressed the Durham University Politics Society about extremism and Prevent on campus. Dr. Usama was joined on a panel by Dr. Mathew Guest, a lecturer at Durham University, and Emma Fox from the Student Rights group. An hour of panel talks was followed by an hour of Q&A. The event was warmly received by the students.

OXFORD – Quilliam International Senior Researcher Dr. Salah Al-Ansari spoke at Oxford Brookes University in a conference titled ‘Terrorism and Society’. Along with leading academics in the field of the study of terrorism and extremism, Dr. Al-Ansari addressed the theological justifications of ISIS terror.

The conference was attended by undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as other leading academics and psychologists who engaged with Dr. Al-Ansari during and after the conference.
