Anti-Muslim Hate Crime in the UK

A Discussion on Tell Mama’s latest reporting of Anti-Muslim Hate Crime

9 July 2014, 18.00 -19.30 pm

Quilliam requests the pleasure of your company for a discussion on key findings based on data collected by Tell Mama – an organisation set-up to monitor anti-Muslim hate crime in the UK. The discussion will be led by Fiyaz Mughal, Director of Tell Mama, and will include contributions from James Bloodworth and Usama Hasan. The discussion will focus on national trends in this form of hate crime, the methodology used to collect data and the symbiosis between Islamist and far-right extremism and how it contributes to anti-Muslim prejudice. It will also explore reporting of anti-Muslim hate crime in the mainstream media and prejudice towards certain Muslims that comes from within Muslim communities.

The discussion panel will include:

Fiyaz Mughal OBE – Director of Tell MAMA, an organisation that monitors anti-Muslim hate crime, as well as Faith Matters, an interfaith and anti-extremist organisation.

James Bloodworth – Political journalist, editor of popular left-wing blog Left Foot Forward and a regular contributor to the Independent.

Dr. Usama Hasan – Senior Researcher at Quilliam, reform theologian, Imam and part-time lecturer.
