Director Maajid Nawaz met with the head of the Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) counter-terrorism unit, Chief Michael Downing, and his staff on 30th September 2008.

 

The meeting focused on the work that the LAPD is engaged in to improve its relationship with Muslim residents of Los Angeles. Questions were asked about the extent of the radicalization problem in America, its manifestations and the ways in which the police can be pivotal in tackling it.

 

The meeting concluded with an invitation from the LAPD to the Quilliam Foundation to return to Los Angeles in pursuance of the mutual desire to tackle extremism.
