On 25th September 2008 Quilliam Director Maajid Nawaz spoke at a lunch buffet hosted by the National Strategy Forum in Chicago. In attendance were philanthropists from some of Chicago’s most established organizations. The event was chaired by Mr Richard Freidman, President of the National Strategy Forum and former candidate in the Chicago Mayoral election.

Maajid spoke about Quilliam’s work in the area of de-radicalization, focusing on the point that Islam itself was his antidote to radicalization. After the talk, a lively discussion ensued about the role of Islam as a faith rather than as an ideology. Mr Freidman recollected his rich experience in public life, including his association with Malcolm X before the latter’s assassination just after he had agreed with Mr Freidman to act as a witness in a criminal trial concerning some Black-American Muslims.
