Usama Hasan led Friday Prayers to inaugurate the annual conference of the Muslim Educational and Cultural Organisation, Oxford. The congregation included a retired Professor of Mathematics at Oxford University who is also an Anglican priest and an Archbishop of the Georgian Orthodox Church. In his address before prayers, Usama spoke about the sacred nature of the human spirit being from the breath of God, and hence the importance of human rights – the theme of the subsequent conference was “Islam and Human Rights – the European Paradigm.”
