Attend the Quilliam Spoken Word & Comedy Night
Wednesday 4th May 2016 at 7.00-9.30PM at Free Word Centre
Winning the War on Words will be a dynamic evening of rhyming, rapping and rhythm about radicalisation, race, Islamic State, integration, stereotypes and the story of us. Fear and faith do not belong together.
Quilliam is a counter extremism think tank and in a climate of fear and uncertainty it is using the arts to bring these delicate but important issues to the forefront.
Quilliam has brought together some of the best of the Spoken Word artists: award winning Anthony Anaxagorou who will be debuting a commissioned piece, Raymond Antrobus, Joelle Taylor and emerging artist Kareem Parkins-Brown, as well as straight talking Muslim comedian Sadia Azmat, whose sell out show includes ‘I am not Malala.’ The evening will be compered by Moj Taylor, stand- up comedian and performer.
Free Word is an international centre for literature, literacy and free expression. This event is part of Free Word’s series, Unravelling Europe. Against a backdrop of increasing fragmentation fuelled by anxiety and fear, the conditions and values that underpin our open, democratic societies are under threat. Putting artists at the heart of the discussion, alongside thinkers and speakers from other disciplines, Unravelling Europe asks how we can better comprehend the complexities at play in order to ‘re-stitch’ the fabric essential to the flourishing of a truly democratic Europe.
